Hey everybody,
The thing I hate the most about filmmaking is funding. I’m running around like mad currently trying to still attend class, work on making this filmy podcast work, and also try to get two last films off the ground before I finish school.
The projects involve quite a few tumblr folks in some sort of capacity. The films that I’m trying to do are, in many ways, being made by this community right hurr!
And I think if I can make them work (IE match them to the ideas that are in my head), I think these could be wonderful films. As it states on the indiegogo page, these two films have very much become sister films. Both deal with ideas and constructions of communities. I would argue that they’ve kind of become presentations of very different views (one more of an assimilationist piece, the other more of a separatist piece).
So, check out the Indiegogo page. It says I’m looking for $500, but I’m only really looking for $200. Any money after that will either go to the films (because I haven’t figured out a real budget!) or be held on for my full length film that I’m also in the process of working on. Any questions feel free to ask. This is a very DIY project.
Also, any folks in or around Michigan interested in acting, I’m still looking for one more actress. I wouldn’t be able to drive you or anything, but if you’re interested or local (preferably interested), we can talk.
Thank you so much for letting me talk about money, which is a silly thing to talk about.
Hafu is a film about the experiences of mixed-Japanese living in Japan.
Japan is changing. Meet the new generation of mixed-Japanese.Check out more about the upcoming film here: hafufilm.com
Also, film needs donations. Help if you can!
Japan’s long been one of my desired destinations for a total immersion culture study. The concept of Hafu (a loan-word from the English word “half”) is not only meant to explore this phenomenon occurring in what once was an almost completely homogenized society, but to also give us insight into how we take “mixed race” for granted. I’m pumped to see how this turns out. And if you have the means to donate, click the link above!

My pals Dorian and Jeremy are currently prepping to bring their cuddly moist hellspawn called Chicago Rot to the streets of the Windy City and beyond, and they could use as many pennies, dimes and nickles as they can get. If you’ve got any spare change and are into really gooey body count movies, hit up this Kickstarter and help ‘em out! It’ll be like pitching in on Two And A Half Men, except these two men are totally babely and the half-man is a big bloody asplosion that you can actually physically be a part of. WINNING.
Extended crew also includes a huge array of well-known Chicago horror mavens, multi-media artists, makeup and special effects wizards, and musical acts. I’m really excited for this.
Just another shout-out to all you filmmakers/film fans who’d be interested in helping back a short film project. My friends have 3 days left to raise just over $1000 or else their project won’t get funded. If you’ve got some spare cash and are interested, click the above link to go to their indiegogo page.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately; I’ve been revving up for the first shoot of Deadhand on March 12th. We’re filming a really cool out-of-body experience scene in an abandoned hospital in Jersey City. The hospital serves as a map for Maria’s (the main character’s) subconscious; her insecurities and desires, and the things she feels forced into against her will. I’m going to be posting some footage after we get it back. We’re shooting on 35mm, which everyone is really excited about, and it’ll be my first time working with 35.
I’m still working towards my fundraising goal of $5,000. Each price level comes with incentives, and $20 gets you a signed dvd of the completed film plus 2 prints of my artwork or a screenshot from the film. It seems like a big goal, but I have a private funder who has agreed to match every dollar I raise. So, if I can raise just $2500 we’ll reach our goal. Which means with what I’ve raised so far, if I can get just 105 people to pledge $20 we’ll set. Every dollar helps. Go to donate.deadhand.net to get more information about pledging.
Thank you so much to everyone who has helped out already through pledging and reblogging my posts about this film
This project is so cool. Check out all the sweet incentives and production updates at http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jillianiscaro/film-deadhand-manomuerta. Even if you can’t donate, spreading the word helps!
